No mouse pointer in SuSe Linux 9.3

Hi there!

I installed SuSe Linux 9.3 in my Dell Dimension 8400. Everything works fine (at a first glance), but I don't see a mouse pointer. The mouse is detected and is functional: I can see the movement of invisible pointer, as the color of an icon changes or tips pops up and clicks work. I don't have any clue how to solve this problem (I'm quite new!). I tried sax2, yast, control center from KDE, searched the web and finally joined this group to post this question. Please help.

Wow that's bizarre. An invisible cursor. Do you have a mouse cursor in the shell? Or does this problem happen only when you start KDE? If it happens only in KDE it may be a KDE config problem.
If you have a mouse cursor after you launch into X, before the windows mgr loads, then I would say KDE.
If you have no cursor in X at all then I would say that you need to edit your xorg.conf or xf86Config4 file, whichever Suse is using, and change the mouse driver that you are using.
They will be at somewhere like
/etc/xorg.conf
/etc/xf86Config4
You can also as root run
Code:
xorgconfig
or xf86config
and reconfigure X.
Try another mouse type. Microsoft works for a 2 button mouse usually, but sometimes auto works better. Or if you see your mouse listed then choose it.

Back up your old xorg.conf first so you can restore it if you mess up. Something like.
cp /etc/xorg.conf /etc/xorg.conf.backup
