no KDE in Kubuntu 6.10 64-bit(ATI X800 GTO 256 bit DDr3)


I've recently installed my Kubuntu and i have this litle problem..Since i began installing my screen goes black every 3-4 seconds and KDE won't start..so i am left in the bash shell..i tried modifying xorg.conf and several other related files following instructions from other forums but nothing worked..i blame the graphics card..i downloaded this driver from ati website ati-driver-installer-8.32.5-x86.x86_64.run.txt..but can anyone tell me how to install it?
Did anyone else encounter same problem?
I am open to any piece of advice..thanks a lot

BTW : I am linux Newbie..in case u didnt notice..

You're probably right!, which kind of card and monitor you have? did you search for them in the supported hardware list in ubuntu.org??? did you look how to configure them for kde??? is there any error message in the terminal 7 (tty7, ctrl+alt+f7) that you may submit to this thread??? please give as much info as you can...

remove the .txt and make it executable.
then type:

./ati-driver-installer-8.32.5-x86_64.run

the ./ is important
it is a shell script wrapped around the driver files.
