Kubuntu 6.0.6 64-bit

Is there some sort of expert mode to do the install in?

It bloody installed its own grub without asking me. Something that is a pet hate of mine. I don't like systems that assume they know what I want.

And it wanted me to provide mount points for all the partitions it picked up (manual edit). I don't want all the partitions mounted

EDIT: I am also thinking of installing the 32-bit version. Will it give me the same type of grief?

You want the alternate CD insted of the desktop CD, It's a text based installer and has more advanced options.
You should be able to install the 32bit version just fine. (unless you gave 4GB or RAM or something)

I always use the alternate CD to install kubuntu and just order some CDs from shipit to hand out to friends, also if you add "debconf/priority=low" (or =medium) to the boot options you get a more expert install.
