No Display with graphics card. With on board graphics working okay.
Hi,
After a lightening strike I had to build a new computer. I am used to Opensuse but it would not load. After trying various distros. Ubuntu 13.1 seems to work without the graphics card. Start up it says kubuntu.
Sent the PC back to the supplier of components. They had to disable UEFI on the bios. Apparently it is for windows 8 only. But same problem persists. And the suppliers do not support linux.
I am using -
Gigabyte H81M-S2PV socket 1150 Micro ATX Motherboard.
and
Palit GeForce GT630 2Gb PCI-Express Graphics Card.
Actually, you should be able to use UEFI with a lot of distros, and it should work with ubuntu 13.10 (its not 13.1).
Your problem is probably that the UEFI/BIOS is set to 'IGFX' in 'Inital Display Output' (in the 'peripherals' section of the UEFI/BIOS). Setting it to 'PCie 1 slot' should fix it.

I think that whom ever told you that was wrong because on all my PC's I never turned off UEFI and wasable to install Linux .
as for your graphics problem did you look in the Bios settings to see if you can turn off the onbard graphics?
also did you plug in the graphics card power. I have done this more then once where I installed two vidcards and forgot to plug in the second videocard power .

Yeah it is actually 13.10
UEFI was enabled before it was not working and Initial display was set to PCIe 1 and still is the same.
Is there anything else in the BIOS that need to be checked?

Hi, To start with UEFI was on and it didn't work.
This graphics card do not have power and no fan either, just a heat sink.
I will though try and turn off the onboard graphics and tell you how it went tomorrow.
Hi, as suggested I disabled the on board graphics and enabled all UEFI thingys back on. And it worked. Thank you for your suggestions. Also thank you "Cascade9" for the motherboard manuel, which was very helpful.
Now the issue is I am having only 1024 x 768 resolution. When I go into system settings and display settings the only other option is 800 x 600. It is not even detecting my monitor make model. Previously with on board graphics I had better resolution and detected my monitor too.
Am I missing the driver for the card or is it something else I am supposed to change?
