New Powersupply, No Devices

I recently installed a new BFG 550w ATX power supply in a friend's computer and from what I can tell, it went fine. When I turn the computer on, it powers up but then stop at a text screen about no boot device is found.

When I look into the BIOS at the boot order, all I see is No Device Found for IDE & Sata. It only have two devices, HDD & CD/DVD drives and both are Sata interface.

This PSU have slots on the side of the unit itself, which I haven't dealt with before, so it caught me off guard. I plugged the power line into one of the slots and plugged a Y shape line into the hdd & CD drives.

Here is a link of how it look.

PSU

Any suggestions on what I'm doing wrong?

Thnx.

Yes, I used a Y shape connector plugged into the power and the split end, one going to the hdd and the other going to the cd drive.

Is this how it work or should I plug each device into its own power connector?

Do the units have power? I.E- do you hear the HDD 'spin up'? Can you open the tray on the CD/DVD drive? If so, can you change their BIOS stat from 'None' to 'Auto'?

I hope mobinskariya is right, but the only time I had that problem, it wasn't the PSU at all; the drive controller on the MoBo was fried.

Yes they seem to be getting power, but the cd drive tray open and close continuesly. In the BIOS, the setting is set at 'Auto'.

My friend was having some kind of issues with the system freezing and random reboots etc. I thought it may have been memory problems but someone else told her a PSU issue. She went ahead and bought the psu and ask me to install it.

Sounds like the PSU is installed properly. If you have spare RAM, you could try changing it to see what happens (or try her RAM in another machine)- sometimes bad RAM can cause quirky, nonsensical problems. If that doesn't work, it's most likely the MoBo.

You did not forget to plug in the "new" four(?) pin stand alone plug that is on the new mother boards did you? A lot of motherboards will boot without it but have strange behavior.

While plugging them both into one slot should work, I would split it just to make sure.

I do hear two short beeps when booting the system. Checking AMI's website show a Parity Error for those beeps.

2 beeps Parity error
- try reseating the memory, if the error still occurs, replace the memory

I'm not sure if I have any extra memory for this system, it is an Intel C2D with an Asus motherboard and AMI Bios.

I'll check out reseating the memory anyway. It is using Sata connections for the hdd & cd/dvd drive.

You might also try cleaning the contact points and sockets then reinserting the RAM.
