You usually need to be in the scanner
group -- check with
grep scanner /etc/group
You may also need to be in the lp
group (not always necessary but can't hurt):
grep lp /etc/group
In the above, "user01" would be your user name.
If you're not
in either or both groups,
usermod -a -G scanner your_user_id
usermod -a -G lp your_user_id
Before you hit the enter key, make sure you have typed an upper case G.
You'll probably only need to add yourself to scanner
