mount ntfs for write


is there a way to mout an ntfs file system so i can remove files.

im trying fix my friends windows box who put so much on his hard drive it will not even boot. i just need to remove some files, and it should work again, but i cant seen to figure out how to write to teh drive. any ideas?

You would be better off using a DOS or Windows boot disk and use the windows command promt to remove the files. Using Linux to modify NTFS is certainly possible but not recommended. goto bootdisk.com and burn a bootdisk image to a floppy... easy as that.

Oh , I think we only modify files on NTFS from Linux with this restrict : the file size does not change . Right ?

Reading from an NTFS partition from Linux is pretty reliable these days, but writing to an NTFS partition should still be considered as being in the experimental stage. You can try it, and it may work, but as kencaz already said it's not recommended, and definitely shouldn't be done on a machine that you depend on
