Monitor "out of frequency"

Allright, so im trying to run ubuntu linux on my emachines t2484 computer with a PCI ATI radeon video card instead of my onboard video card.

I have successfully gotten ubuntu to ignore the other video card and boot X with the other card. But now my monitor (an envision LCD) is saying "out of frequency", however the settings have been configured in the xorg.conf for vertical refresh and horizontal refresh based off of the values found from "ddcprobe | grep monitorrefresh"

I plugged in my old generic monitor and found that X works on this monitor.

Can someone please advise me as to further steps to take, i am currently attempting to install centos 4.2 and try to get this working again.

Thanks

The problem is probably not the frequency, but the resolution.

Try changing those values for resolution and see if that helps

can we see result of ddcprobe. CRTs can usually support higher refresh rates than lcds. However usually the picture will be distorted instead of saying bad refresh rate. I dont see how it could hurt if you lower your refresh rate. See what happens

ive edited the file to set the monitor to 1024x768 which the monitor supports under windows without any problems.

What does depth 24 mean, it is set as default in the config file.

Should this be 32 (as in 32bit color?)

I am attempting to use the Modeline system to try to get this to work.

depth determines the number of colors. tells you the numbers of bits used on each color channel. Normally it is set to 32 bit color.
