Unhappy MobilePre USB soundcard on Slackware 14

Hello all

Sorry if there is already a thread regarding this somewhere, but I've not bee able to find one. The internet also has not resulted in success, so I post out of desperation (not to lose another day trying!!!)

I'm trying to get a MobilePre USB soundcard working with Slackware 14 (kernel 3.2.45)

So far I've got as far as making sure the device is detected:

Jan 26 13:56:49 *** kernel: [ 13.872169] usb 3-3: New USB device found, idVendor=0763, idProduct=2804
Jan 26 13:56:49 *** kernel: [ 13.872228] usb 3-3: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=0
Jan 26 13:56:49 *** kernel: [ 13.872281] usb 3-3: Product: Unknown
Jan 26 13:56:49 *** kernel: [ 13.872332] usb 3-3: Manufacturer: Unknown

I also installed madfuload so that it "loads the firmware" upon device detection, which seemed to be instructed from some posts elsewhere on the net.

However, despite playing with ALSA configurations (including turning off snd-hda-intel to disable the current "cards", the configuration as default is below) I just can't seem to get the USB to be recognised...

card 0: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 0: ALC270 Analog [ALC270 Analog]
Subdevices: 0/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: HDMI [HDA ATI HDMI], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

Sorry if there isn't enough / the right information to diagnose this. If anyone has any links to tutorials, or has got this working in the past, please could you advise?

Thanks in advance!!!

I have zero experience with your device. Your device is being recognised but does not appear as a sound device. This suggests a problem with udev.
Have you seen this? http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=846621

Hi allend, thanks for the reply!

Yeah I did see that, I've set up the udev rule / firmware bin and so on, but have not seen any indication that it's being loaded. I will check again when at home.

Quick "inexperienced user" question: where would I look for output / information regarding udev and what it's up to when the device is connected?

Thanks!!!

I think you need to look at 'man udevadm'.

Yes indeedy!

Right done that and the kernel is reporting the device is loaded and the udev rule is taking care of itself. Unfortunately despite restarting the udev daemon and re-initializing ALSA the soundcard still isn't being identified.

I've included what I think is the relevant information from the log between the device being identified and the udev rules being taken care of:

Hi!
did you build madfuload from source, or did you find a slackbuild/package?
