Microphone stopped recording in Gentoo

Hi,
i posted this in gentoo board, here: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p...8.html#5666198 but i have not gotten help in quite a while.

microphone will play back into the speakers of my headphone but will not be picked up (record) by any piece of software, skyphone, ventrilo, different recording software part of kde or gnome.

please let me know what information you need from my system and how to give it to you and help me troubleshoot this problem.
it has stopped working for quite some time now and it is very frustrating.

You need to unmute the microphone and mute all the playback outputs. Use alsamixer for that.
