Unhappy Matrox Video Cards-General

Hello ,fellow Linux heads ,I got a simple question here!!

I booted up my Linux box Last night and NO screen came on , Dawned on me --I left my Monitor Plug in my WinDoWs Box and forgot to plug it into my MATROX MILLENIUM vintage VIDEO Card(which is on My LiNuX Box). For a period of about 15 ~25 seconds .

Could this wreck my Video Card??? Having No load on it ,or are Vid cards tolerant of Abuse ?????

I regularly hot plug my monitors, the downshot to having three sketchy servers downstairs and not enough cash for a KVM. I've only got 1 matrox card though, G550, dual-headed on my main system and I almost never turn off the machine let alone switch the monitors.

So let me get this right, you hot swapped the monitor to the matrox card after the machine was all booted up and get no signal? Maybe something odd about screen detection if you're using the matrox drivers... dunno really, if a reboot didn't clear it up and you can get no screen on the linux box I'de drop another card in and make certain the machine is solid... yeah you can spark off your card, but the odds are pretty remote.

Cheers,

I got a signal Awlright ,Vid Image was readable .Iwas worrying about the resolution ,if the Chip got hot(a possible microsurge!!(ITis a TeXas Instrument Chip) does get rather warm-Future ProJect Heatsink the chip w/low profile sink...

So thats the Facts for Now ,and you HOTSWAP your Monitors ,OUCH thats TESTING ,"consumers reports style"!!!!

Yeah... none of these machines run X, so its just a matter of pulling a different card off of the shelf if I ever toast one (mostly 4 or 8mb PCI card), pretty sure I can't smoke the monitor, but lately that's the only thing I've got in perverse supply anyway. I was tempted to built a quad-head machine just for giggles.
