Sometimes EDID trouble with a CRT can be solved via a cable change. Many "15 pin" cables only have 14 pins. Changing to one providing all 15 might improve results, as might simply a better quality cable.
just figure, when I was testing and realized the monitor was connected to integrated graphics, then check out the card. I find only a blank screen now. no signal from the card. rip
With FOSS drivers at least, valid EDID isn't actually required to escape being limited to fallback mode(s). By providing suitable PreferredMode, HorizSync and VertRefresh in an /etc/X11/xorg.con* file, Xorg will automatically calculate appropriate modeline(s) for the mode(s) you wish used.
I have a Biostar motherboard with that same G41 chipset and same X4500 onboard video. Its AMI BIOS options for video configuration are perplexing. Maybe yours are similar, and need to be changed for the nVidia card to work as it should.
Hmm... I got it work funny thing is the VGA CRT only goes to 480X480 res, while the Acer monitor+ DVI cable has better resolution and has a smaller screen size so, the problem is actually the monitor I was using a LG 32LC5DCS. I had switch also from onboard display to PCIe in bios. So I best looking into improving the monitor performance, or not use VGA on the LG, looking into switching the vga for hdmi, maybe dual setup with the acer.
