low resolution nvidia geforce 210

Installed latest nvidia driver.
Specs:
Slackware 14.1 64 bit
Asrock G41C-gs mother board
Asus geforce 210 video card

Possible solutions - install correct mb drivers for pcie chipset, locate a jumper or bios configuration. Or determine if the card is defective.

Start by examining the Xorg log (/var/log/Xorg.0.log). That might help with the diagnosis. It is a lengthy file, so you want to share it here you might consider uploading it to https://pastebin.com/ and post the link that it provides here.

This might be help as well.

The graphics card details (chipset and driver) would be useful too...
Code:
/sbin/lspci -nnk|grep '\[03' -A3

for that old 210 card you need the legacy support "340.104 " driver
the " 384.98 " will not work

Not sure though whether it will help but you might get some idea.

Why? I have the same GT218 [GeForce 210] gfxcard specs, except not branded Asus. It works fine with the native Xorg modesetting driver in current versions of openSUSE, Fedora, Mageia and Debian, with LCD displays with native modes of 1680x1050, 1920x1080 and 2560x1080, using both DVI and HDMI cables.

^ i also had the same card (still have it actually), even with the asus branding, but mind you it still is an nvidia card as far as software is concerned.
never had a problem with it; both nouveau and nvidia work, but it benefits from nvidia.

Your Xorg.0.log shows that the nvidia driver is loaded, but there is a problem with the VGA-connected display EDID, so a safe display resolution is chosen instead....

Code:
(WW) NVIDIA(GPU-0): The EDID read for display device CRT-1 is invalid: the
(WW) NVIDIA(GPU-0): checksum for EDID version 1 extension is invalid.
It is possible to work around this by configuring Xorg to ignore EDID and set the display resolution manually. I haven't had to do this in over a decade, but there are countless threads, wiki pages etc showing what needs to be done if you care to search eg....

Sometimes EDID trouble with a CRT can be solved via a cable change. Many "15 pin" cables only have 14 pins. Changing to one providing all 15 might improve results, as might simply a better quality cable.
