Logitech LX7 mouse stops working

i have an LX7 mouse and for some reason it will randomly stop working. after a fresh install of Ubuntu Feisty the mouse will work for 2-15 minutes and then will suddenly just stop responding. the touchpad will still move the mouse and the system isn't hung or anything, just the mouse will no longer move. replaced the batteries to no avail. reboot and the mouse will work for a short time again. any idea why this might be happening?
