Linux and AMD

I am thinking about buying a new computer with an AMD chip in it. Does any one know of any problems running linux on an AMD chip? I am just asking because i remember way beck when I tried to install NT 4.0 on a box with a AMD chip and it did not work. wondering if Slackware and Redhat would have any problems with it.

There can be some freezes using AGP unless you pass mem=nopentium to the kernel.

AMD's official position: this is not a CPU bug

I just can get a good deal on a laptop that has a AMD chip in it. I run Redhat but am thinking of Slackware. In terms of apps. I only use MP3 players, Video players, burn CDs maybe wach a DVD and mostuly use oppen office and Mozilla.
