Is your USB flash drive counterfeit?

The real capacity of counterfeit USB flash drives is much less than the advertised capacity.

Here are links for two items of testing software:

Harald Bögeholz produced H2testw 1.4 for Windows:

https://sosfakeflash.wordpress.com/2...erfeit-drives/

This will run under Linux via Wine.

The test software specifically for Linux is called F3 (by Digirati):

It's pretty much a case of uf the price is "too good to be true...." it probably isn't true.

NOBODY will sell you a 1Tb USB key for $20!!

nope you maybe mistaken. the amount and actual sizes are actually just two different means of measurement being used.

Instead of just using just one unit of measurement they use two.

One to sell it to you.

The other is the actual size available to you to use.

Unless one is getting them off the net where prices are just too good to believe - still that method is being used. Just in a more deceiving way.

It's worse then that, counterfeiters will fudge the controller so that the card will report a MUCH higher capacity than it actually has. Generally these are based around an actual 8Gb key and will start corrupting in an unpredictable manner when used beyond the actual capacity.

Pretty much.... had a cousin-in-law that was adamant that he'd picked up a 128Gb memory card for his camera for something like $10.... yeah, he found out the hard way. Personally I'd only buy a brand name I trust from a store I trust.

I usually buy mine via can I say eBAy? Brand name for the most part. But then one time I seen a better then ever deal on a brand name. Then read it twice and seen refurbished microSD card. I skipped that add.

I usaully buy on line because of its price. where one can buy the same brand name for less. Like I was in a cell phone (Brand Name) store, and they had a 16GB microSD card $100 US and I just about died after I seen the price.
