Cool IR mce remote with LIRC

Ok some information

My MCE remote model number is GP-IR02BK
Im using LinuxMint 11
From what I understand my IR receiver on my laptop is an ite8708
I could be wrong so my laptop is an asus G50Vt

the extent of what i've done is
I ran sudo apt-get install lirc
I replaced /etc/lirc/lirc.conf with this file http://lircconfig.commandir.com/lirc...iewremote=1118

Long story short I have no idea whats next or if what i've done this far will work, I would like to make this remote work with Elisa or any other good Media center linux applications you can recommend me,

I Would really appreciate some help, thanx in advanced

Can you move your mouse pointer using the remote? I know XBMC has a good track record of working with remote controls out of the box.

Try this link. It's for Mythtv but there are tests you can perform to check if your remote is configured/working correctly.

I must be fortunate in that my 'no-name' remote just works in Mandriva with no additional software required.
