hi. i am a new linux user. i am trying to mount my ipod so that i can use gtkpod. ipod uses firewire, and i have both a cardslot with 2 firewireports and a 1394 port. i am not sure either the pcmia or 1394 is being recognized... when i run cardmgr i get the following errors:
cardmgr[3402]: open_sock(socket 0) failed: Device or resource busy
cardmgr[3402]: another cardmgr is already running?
when i run the command lsmod to see what devices i have it gives me this:
does anyone know what steps i should take to get my ipod recognized when i plug it in? i know something is happening because when i plug it into the cardbus the ipod turns on, but that's it. all the websites i read about ipods and linux say the ipod should auto-mount. what am i doing wrong? thanks...

Could you boot your (I assume laptop) with the cardbus card out, then plug in the card, and repost the last few lines of dmesg?
I'm not sure your pcmcia card is being recognised.
Sure thing... I rebooted w/out the card then inserted and nothing significant changes in dmesg:

So I assume you are implying that would be an issue with my 1394 card. I edited the kernel configuration to support PCMIA and such, so it should work. Is there any hope? I'm attempting to use a standard/generic no-name 2 port PCI to firewire card. Thanks for the help...
Thanks for the help everyone... I just caved in and bought the USB adapter for 15 bucks; works great now. I think it was just a non-compliant pci card. Thanks again!
