intel shared doesn't support opengl?

Hi
I have a dell laptop inspiron 1150
I am trying to run a program that was written in c++ using opengl.
but it doesn't work, it quits with the message: freeglut (./lesson5): OpenGL GLX extension not supported by display ':0.0'

and also when I try to start armagetron, it get similar error messages like:
I have tried all my cards, but most probably opengl won't run on this display ':0.0'

to make my xserver work with proper resolution I had to apply a patch (855patch or something, which tells the bios my card has 64mb not 8mb, but when I start up I see messages like intel XXX 128mb, I am not even sure if it's not 128mb).

Is anyone able to run an opengl-program (e.g. armagetron) with their intel shared graphics devices?

And if not, do I have to give up trying to make it run?

any suggs, ideas welcome

thanks alot

quarry

according to intel website, it does.
they say they have a linux driver for this device Intel® 82855GM/GME, which I have.
the text then says I should download tar and install it and then change the entry in my XF86Config-4 from "vesa" to "i810".

but I already have i810 entered. did my debian come with that driver?
shall I give a try to this intel driver?

thanks
