Intel 536ep modem on Fedora Core 1 Problem
I have read posts and checked websites for a while now, and have gotten no where really. i have an intel 5346ep modem, i went to Intel's site downlaoded the Fedora Core 1 file intel536-4.68-fc1-up.tgz. i rebooted into linux, decompressed the file, ran the commands, make clean, make 536, make install like the readme said, all worked with no errors. now i tried to use the network connection wizard, it probes for modems but finds none. so i check to see if my 536ep modules are loaded, they are, i check /etc/sysconfig/hwconf, it shows this:
class: MODEM
bus: PCI
detached: 0
driver: unknown
desc: "Intel Corp.|536EP Data Fax Modem"
vendorId: 8086
deviceId: 1040
subVendorId: 8086
subDeviceId: 1000
pciType: 1
pcibus: 2
pcidev: a
pcifn: 0
-
class: MODEM
bus: PCI
detached: 0
driver: unknown
desc: "U.S. Robotics|unknown device 16ec:2f00"
vendorId: 16ec
deviceId: 2f00
subVendorId: 16ec
subDeviceId: 010a
pciType: 1
pcibus: 2
pcidev: b
pcifn: 0
Now I'm not even trying to work with the U.S.R, modem thats just useless and i have tried removing the U.S.R. modem to see if linux was just "confused" by it, but no. The only idea i have at the moment is to change the hwconf file to list the driver for the Intel Corp.|536EP Data Fax Modem. Problem is i don't know the file name or default location for sure. I was hoping someone here might no where it is located or could steer my in the direction of another solution. thanks guys.
