PCI software modem intel 536ep driver problem

I have Slackware 9.1

It works fine except for the modem.

Modem chipset is intel 536ep. I got a driver from the intel web site. I followed the instructions to compile and install it. Looks like it installed okay.

When I boot the computer it says "error loading 536epcore."

My kernel is 2.4.22. Driver supports 2.4.x so that seems to match.

Any idea what this means or what to do?

Thanks.
