Ubuntu ultimate sounds like a scam to me. If you HAD to pay for it then it probably is.

Well.

Stick in the card and Ubuntu detects it and pops up a little bubble "Restricted drivers are available"

So you install off that and you can use 3d.

BIOS

Try going into your BIOS setup and disabling the onboard graphic chip. You might check to see that the card is well seated in its slot and that any BIOS settings particular to the card type (AGP/PCI) are properly set.

Look at the motherboard manual if you have it, otherwise try to download it from ASRock. The manual should tell you what the possible BIOS setting proper are, what they mean, and give you some information on what settings you should use.

As stated on the preceding post, Ubuntu should load a module for this card and, if you have the right repository installed, give you access to the Nvidia driver.

You could also get the driver from Nvidia. The README in Step 3 will give more information.

I believe there is an Intel driver that might install to give you better graphics that the open source module loaded as the default at boot. Have you tried it? The graphics with the onboard chip might then be better than the the FX5200. You have choices.
