The only foolish questions are those that are not asked. This --> 2.6.27.7-desktop-1mnb is the kernel version you are running. I need to know this as we are going to attempt installing the ati GNU/Linux driver ourselves. Hopefully the install will be successfull and everything will be working correctly.
We need to have a few things in place before we can start the install.
1. You need to download the correct GNU/Linux driver for your gfx card from the ati site.
2. We need to add the kernel-devel files for the driver to compile against.
While you are doing number one. Open a konsole session, switch to root by typing su followed by your root password.
Can you help me locate the driver I need to download. I have one that I've already downloaded from the ATI website, but I'm not certain it's the correct one. The name of the file I've downloaded is:
That is the correct driver. When you save it, save it to your home/username folder. If you have saved it to another location, move it to your home/username folder.
Ok....... It's there. (home/alan........ correct?).... My names Alan BTW. :-)
Now I have to do the "sh" command in the konsole as per the installation procedures outlined in the .pdf file from the ATI website........correct? I think it is:
sh ./ati-driver-installer-8-10-x86.x86_64.run.........?

I hate to leave a problem mid-stream but it's time for me to go.
A few tips:
1. Follow the manual closely.
2. Even if you think you know what to do next, confirm it first.
3. When you have done everything as instructed reboot your computer.
4. Test using fglrxinfo look for something like this: OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
5. See if you can see the cube and gears by typing: fgl_glxgears
Once again, good luck.
Some things to ponder on:
Still no cube and gears OR the ATI Technologies Inc. OpenGL vendor string......... ? Too, I keep getting "bumped" back to the login screen??? I will await further instructions and advice.

That is correct. I have played with "aticonfig" to the point I don't know what changes I've made. Hopefully you can help some more. Thank God your back!!!........ LOL ........ I lowered the screen resolution to 1024 X 768 in hopes of stopping the problem of being "bumped" back to the log in screen. It has helped a lot. I'm not sure how it was changed.
