[SOLVED] HP w2207 monitor stuck at 800x600

I recently installed kubuntu (dual-boot) on my desktop machine. I have an HP w2207 monitor connected to it via a KVM switch. I can't seem to get the monitor above 800x600.

In windows I have no problems going higher.

If it matters, the monitor is connected using the standard VGA, not DVI. My video card is an nvidia 7600 GS w/256mb ram

EDIT: Fixed it! had to manually set my refresh rate ranges in my xorg.conf file. Oddly enough from the googling I did, I read this would be pointless..

Ah well!

what is the make of your KVM?
Apparently it prevented autodetection of your monitor. Is your monitor present on the 'list of choices'?

Or it may be a nvidia driver+settings'fault

My KVM is a D-Link KVM-121.

As for my monitor being in the list of choices ( assume you are asking weather or not it appears as an option when I hit the "Configure" button in the Monitor & Display pane of the system settings window). It doesn't. All it says is that I have a Plug'n'Play monitor

Oddly enough, Vista says it's a Generic Non-PnP monitor but detects the Maximum Resolution as 1600x1200. This is incorrect too as I know that the monitor's max res is 1680xsomething. Hmm, time to find a Vista driver for my monitor.

I guess your KVM is blocking the DDC connection between the monitor and video card. My w2207 shows up and is detected fine under Linux.
