How to install HP Deskjet F4135 printer/scanner

Hi all.
After about a year and a half, I'm back. Fresh install of Ubuntu 7.10 and getting things working again. I have downloaded all current available updates. Now I'm up against a printer.

HP Deskjet F4135

HPLIP ... installed
gcc ... installed
libpthread ... installed
cups-devel ... installed
libusb ... installed
libtool ... installed
libjpeg ... installed

CUPS just doesn't see my printer. It sees an HP Deskjet and a Deskjet F300. Neither one my model and I can't print to either or print a test page to either.

I have been http://openprinting.org/show_printer...-DeskJet_F4100

here and tried the hpijs driver, but got nothing.

Any help would be appreciated.

-Jason

I use the same HP4100 driver for an F4180, without a hitch. Instead of using the hpijs driver, try downloading the PPD file from that link, and when you go to set up a new printer in CUPS (through a web-browser at http://localhost:631 is my preferred method), there is the option to supply your own PPD file - point it to the location of the downloaded PPD.

With CUPS and driver support, version numbers are usually a little off, but work nonetheless.

No Dice

Tried exactly that. Got a PPD, told cups to use it, and nothing works. I know there's a way, I just can't find it.
