How to have linux play nice with Canon LiDE 700f

I'm not having much luck getting Linux (Mint in this case) to play nice with my Canon LiDE 700F scanner.

Every attempt results in the first page scan attempt ending with "Error during device I/O"

Whether the page actually appears is hit and miss. I need to reboot the software for the next scan.

Canon don't seem to have a specific driver for Linux.

Short of using Windows, which I am currently, is there a solution?

Thanks

FrizzledOldButt,

That is a very old scanner. I doubt if you will get it to work with Linux.

I have a Canon CanoScan LiDE 210 which works perfectly in Linux Mint.

All I had to do was install simple-scan:

Code:
sudo apt install simple-scan
You could try installing simple-scan and see if that makes any difference.

More recent models such as the LiDE 220 and the LiDE 400 will also work with Linux.

Linux drivers are available from Canon:

I have a LiDE 25 and that works with the plustek driver. But I know that manufacturer's names aren't much of a guide to what's inside.

The scanner is 7 yrs old. I have scanners much older than that and they work fine.

Anyway, don't the "Linux is the greatest safest easiest to use OS in the World" fanboys always recommend NOT going with the latest and greatest hardware, i.e. stick with the well tried?
