How to choose IDE conroller order?

I put a PCI IDE RAID Controller in my system and it shifts the onboard IDE drives from hda through hdd to hde through hdh causing my system to not boot. I don't want to move my drives around and would just prefer if the new IDE controller picked up at hde leaving my original drives on the motherboard integerated controller. Is choosing your controller possible? It seems like it should be a boot time kernel option but I haven't turned it up yet in my searches.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Try putting in a different pci slot. Putting it in a different slot may give it a different IRQ that puts it after the internal IDE controller.
