Which IDE-Controller to choose?

I actualy only need an additional IDE-chanel but since even the cheapest IDE-conttrolers offer RAID I've decided to buy one of the following, which do you recommend concerning stability and speed?
Sil0680 or
IT8212F (ITE)

Or are there any other more favorable for linux?

I've looked through kernel 2.6.10(make menuconfig) and found this for the Sil0680:

CONFIG_BLK_DEV_SIIMAGE:

This driver adds PIO/(U)DMA support for the SI CMD680 and SII 3112 (Serial ATA) chips.

Nothing from ITE in the Devicedriver-Section though.

I would prefer the ITE because it has more cache and an integrated CPU.

Thanks for kernel investigation.

I see your point, ITE is a better chip. Not quite sure what to do at this stage....investigation continues.

Found 2 following relevant infos:

1:
Sil vs. ITE concerning RAID performance:
Benchmark Tool :
HD Tach v3.0.1.0

Values ITE :
READ : 91MB/sec.
WRITE: 22MB/sec. !!

Values SIL :
READ : 105,05MB/sec
WRITE : 98,81MB/sec

Hardware :
Board - ABIT NF7-S
CPU - AMD XP2100+ @ 2333MHz
RAM - 2x512 MB PC 2700 SAMSUNG
HD1 - MAXTOR 6Y080L0 : RAID "0" (tested)
HD2 - WD 800 JB : RAID "1"

2:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hlight=Sil0680

I'll go with Sil but first I'm gona try to find a cheap Promise, an UDMA133 - or maybe UDMA100 which can be tweaked to raidconroller:
