How do I map my keyboard to be able to enter Danish characters

I have this new PC with pre-installed Linux (Linpus -Taiwan - distribution), with KDE. I have the following problems :
- I cannot enter Danish characters. I have a .map file with Danish mapping, which I have tried loading many times with loadkeys. What I see when I run xmodmap -pke is actually how my keys are mapped, but different from what is in the .map file that I have loaded.
- It is not only the Danish characters that are not working, other special characters are mapped differently.

Is there any file that I can edit, to make my .map file behave like xmodmap -pke?

Thanks

I solved the problem by editing the file: /etc/X11/XF86Config.
All I had to do was change the lines
Identifier "Keyboard0"
Driver "keyboard"
Option "XkbRules" "xfree86"
Option "XkbModel" "pc102" --->changed from the default
Option "XkbLayout" "dk" --->changed from the default

I had tried going via
Control Center --> Regional & Accessibility -->Country/Region & Accessibility,
Control Center --> Regional & Accessibility -->Keyboard Layout, trying diferent combinations; nothing worked.

I also tried loadkeys with different .maps files, no success.

Now the keyboard works.
