Hoe safe to resize partitions?

G'day one and all,
I want to create space on my HDD to allow the setting up of a Home/Data partition. The two exisiting partitions with extra space are (XP's) NTFS and (Ubuntu's) ext3 partitions. How safe is it to do a manual resizing with an Ubuntu disk? It has been suggested (elsewhere) that it would be a good idea to make the new partition FAT32 as it can be accessed by either platforms. Any cooments appreciated.

Regards
John

Hi heffo_j,
Resizing your NTFS partition and then creating a FAT32 partition from the free space obtained is the best way, as both GNU/Linux and Windows XP can read and write to FAT32.

Refer this thread for some good Live CD based partitioning tools : -
