Unhappy Another drk 9.1 sound problem!


I have a hp 503w pavilion pc. i am running mandrake linux 9.1. i finely got it installed on my compuetr(never used linux before) and nothing works.
i have no idea what i am doing and need help!!!!!!! ok i found out that i have
a AC97 on-board audio and tried aumix and it wont open at all. xmms opens fine but no sound. i have no idea what i am doing also my modem is not detected by mandrake controle center i have a broadxent v.92 pci modem.
please help!
