Help me buying Optical Digital Soundcard and DVB-T

Hello, (excuse for my poor english).

I actually have SoundCard and DVB-T Card but they are not fully compatible with Linux (actually using Ubuntu).

So my question is if somebody can recommend me components fully compatible.

MY NEEDS:

- The SoundCard must play a 5.1 Speaker System compatible with DTS and Dolby via optical-digital cable. (My actual soundcard can only play 2.0 via optical-digital with Linux) (PCI or PCI-Express).

- The DVB-T card and the remote control must be compatible with Linux (PCI or PCI-Express).

Here are the shops (in Spain) that I can buy:

Soundcards:

pccomponentes.com/tarjetas_sonido.html
alternate.es/html/categoryListing.html?cat1=025&cat2=999&cat3=000&tgid=68&tn=HARDWARE&l1=Sonido+PC&l2=Tarjetas+de+soni do&
DVB-T card:

appinformatica.com/tarjetas-tv-tdt.htm
pccomponentes.com/sintonizadoras_internas.html
alternate.es/html/categoryListing.html?cat1=74&cat2=289&cat3=0&tgid=68&tn=HARDWARE&l1=Tarjetas+de+TV&l2=Terrestre+%28D VB-T%29&
If you suggest me a component not listed in these shops it's no problem, I can search it in other shops.

Thanks

Hi,

LQ has a Hardware Compatibility List. Maybe you can have a look there and see which cards suit your needs and then check if they are available in your listed shops.

Your english is fine Locklear

I'd probably get a Asus Xonar DX (PCIe). I've never tested the optical out with a DX under linux, but as far as I know it should work 100%.

Sure?

I actually have a Xonar D2 (chipset AV200): http://www.alsa-project.org/main/ind...ix:Vendor-Asus
AV200 it's not working 100%

Xonar DX use chipset AV100. Are your sure it works in all channels?

Thanks

crts: thanks for the link

No, I'm not sure, since I've never used a Xonar with TOSlink/SPDIF myself.

Its possible that you've been hit with some DRM junk as well. Though as far as I know that only matters if you are playing lossless content (DTS-HD, TrueHD)

I understand that this problem is with HDMI.

Thanks

Gah, posted teh wrong link. I'll try to find the one I meant to post.

SPDIF/TOSlink have the same DRM problems. I dont know how it affects things with linux, as I dont have any 'premium content'.
