my sound chip is from the acer aspire 5101
under fedora 7 there are two sound cards:
HDA ATI SB (alsa mixer)
Realtek ALC883 (OSS mixer)

certain games and applications have no sound or hardlock and need kill -9'ing in order to be removed.

unreal tournament Game of the year edition. has no sound. error in console is that it cannot open /dev/dsp despite having the snd-pcm-oss modules loaded.

warzone2100 loads and runs in the menus then as soon as the ingame starts running there is a hard lock of the program which uses 100% cpu and needs kill -9 to vanquish.

dont quite understand what the issue is. warzone2100 does not lock when sound is disabled from commandline but does when it is enabled. for the short time it does run without locking there is no sound.
i hope someone can help me as this problem is quite annoying
