So, I tried playing tuxracer the other day and I noticed i was getting around 5 fps and the graphics were less than awful. I naturally thought it was some problem with my video card and I went to www.ati.com to update my drivers.
upon trying to install them, i get this
Code:
[root@d198-166-63-35 sandy]# rpm -Uvh fglrx-4.3.0-3.9.0.i386.rpm
/etc/security/selinux/file_contexts: No such file or directory
Preparing... ########################################### [100%]
file /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1.2 from install of fglrx-4.3.0-3.9.0 conflicts with file from package xorg-x11-Mesa-libGL-6.7.0-2
I'm using fedora core 2 and running kde 3.2.
this is a pretty important issue for me becaue i'd like to purchase ut2004 sometime soon and play that too...
this is a pure guess, but i'm wondering if you ought perhaps to try 'rpm -ivh' instead of 'rpm -Uvh'.... given that the -U switch indicates 'update', it might be looking for a pre-existing directory which isn't already there. if you're installing the ati drivers to replace those shipped with your distro, you might be better off trying the -i (install) switch.
[root@d198-166-63-35 sandy]# rpm -ivh fglrx-4.3.0-3.9.0.i386.rpm
/etc/security/selinux/file_contexts: No such file or directory

this seems to be a cock-up on the part of ati - you need to change the permissions on the file to make it executable.
you might need root permissions, i can't remember. it can be done from a gui, or from the command line. in konqueror, just 'right-click' on the file, go down to properties, then click on the 'permissions' tab that appears.
if you need further assistance, check what's already on LQ.org regarding permissions, or post back - your best bet is a new thread.
First, I you run Fedora core 2 you certainly have XFree86 at least
You could check the official ATI forum at rage3d.comv 4.3.0 because Fed Cor1 uses that version
Exit xfree86 and in console mode type:
rpm -ivh --force fglrx-4.3.0-3.9.0.i386.rpm
Then still in console mode run fglrxconfig.
I don't know about your motherboard, but Nforce2 chipset requires to use the external agpgart module.
You can check the official ATI forum at rage3d.com there you'll find a bunch of people in your situation.
Sorry for the typo in my last post, it shoul have been:
