G550 Dualhead Mdk 9.1

Hi,
I am a Linux newbie. I have a Matrox G550 dualhead graphics card. Iiyama MF-8617E 17in analog, Iiyama AS4431D 17in digital LCD & am using Mandrake 9.1. I had no problem getting both screens to work in mandrake 8 using drivers from Matrox. Any help would be great.

Thanks

Could you give more details? eg error messages, what is going wrong on your machine, settings you've tried, what happened each time you changed settings, what driver you are now using, etc etc etc

Ta.

Mandrake shipped with XFree86 4.3.0, which Matrox hasn't compiled G550 drivers for yet. Don't worry, the old ones work fine. Download the file:

mgadrivers-2.1.tgz

from here:

http://www.matrox.com/mga/support/dr...les/lnx_21.cfm

Unpack it with:

tar xvzf mgadrivers-2.1.tgz

then go into the directory:

cd magdrivers/xfree86/4.2.1(or)4.2.0/dri/

and copy the dri module, mga_dri.so to wherever it is on you system the stock XFree86 one is, probably in /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/dri/mga_dri.so

Use the command: locate mga_dri.so

To see where the stock XFree one is.

The other directory next to dri/ is drivers/ In there are 2 modules:
mga_drv.o mga_hal_drv.o

Do the same, although the hal driver doesn't have a pre-existing XFree86 conterpart, just put it in the same directory as mga_drv.o

Also get mgapdesk, for that an RPM might work.

Cheers,

Finegan
