file = posix tar archive

hello I have a drive that, I tried to compress using tar. But stopped it midstream and now when I try to mount the drive I recieve and error that squashfs cannot be found or read. Following that I made a image of the drive using dd_rescue,so I tried to use the file command and now the results "posix tar archive"

so how can I read posix, I do not know where to go from here!

thanks Jason

tar tvf <file> Doesn't work?

Just doing above ought to show you table of contents.

tar xvf <file> ought to extract the contents.

POSIX is just a standards designation. There is a --posix flag available for GNU Tar if the above don't work using that flag may help.

Type "man tar" for more information.
