Ok, Ive got Mandriva power pack up and running on my Thinkpad t41. Now, my first question is, it installed the ATI drivers by default. How do I know if I have 3-d acceleration enabled?
Second, Im trying to access my external hard drive, and it keeps griping about the permissions. I can access as root, but I need normal user privilidges. How can I change this?
Sorry if these sound n00bish, and I am by no means a n00b, but Ive been out of the linux game for about 1.5 years, and I dont even remember basic shell commands

You can use autofs or even configure it via /etc/fstab. For autofs see http://www.cyberciti.biz/nixcraft/vi...unt-linux.html for /etc/fstab pass options
auto: File system is automatically determined by kernel.
user: Normal user are allowed to mount devices, read man page of fstab for format.
