Fedora Core 12 AGP Card

I recently installed Fedora Core 12 32 bit version on my machine with a an MSI MX4000-T64 video card (nVidia AGP 8x). It seems as if X is not starting and the OS is reverting to text mode after the install is complete.

My system worked fine with Fedora Core 11.

Can someone point me to a list of compatible AGP 8x cards that will work properly with Fedora 12 or a fix that will let me use my existing MSI card?

Are you using the proper driver?

cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf

If you are using the binary nvidia driver, this will have entries in it. It will be empty otherwise. Dunno how to force nv or vesa though - without writing a device section.

I guess you can look in lsmod

lsmod | grep vesa
lsmod | grep nv

looking in the xorg log files will tell you, and the syslog too.

It may just be a matter of something like

#yum install kmod-nvidia

http://www.mjmwired.net
... look for the f12 notes.

note: Fedora Core is no more after FC6. After that it is just fedora (note, lower case f).

To install graphics drivers in Fedora 12 correctly, use the guides and solutions section of fedora forum, it's not as easy as installing kmod-nvidia, especially since nouveau is now tied so closely to the kernel. Link:

Check to see if your card is supported first, installing then booting to text mode points to your card not being recognized.

Thanks - this looks like it's the correct approach.
