For instance:

Code:
Section "Device"
        Identifier "MATROX CARD 1"
        Driver "mga"
        VendorName "Matrox"
        BoardName "MGA G550 AGP"
        Option "hw cursor" "off"
        BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
EndSection
And change driver there to "vesa", I think the last rev of any given distro still tries to jam in "i810".

to edit that one:

pico /etc/X11/XF86Config

The commands for pico are at the bottom of the screen, so you should be alright there. The file may be called XF86Config-4, you didn't mention which distro you're on.

However, you may want to upgrade to RH9.0, Mandy 9.1, or Slackware 9.0, or even the newest SuSe as all of those are on XFree86 4.3.0 and finally have native support for the annoying I845 Graphics chip, so no mucking about with a naff little 8Mb framebuffer.

Cheers,

Finegan
