DVD/CD firmware updating under linux

I have a Lite-On DVDRW SOHW-1673S.
I can only find firmware updaters that run in Windows.
Is there a way to do this in linux (easily) ?

I managed to get a firmware updater (not Lite-On though) to work under wine a few months ago. I had to set it up and run it as root though, since it needed permissions to directly access the drive. Other than that, it ran perfectly.

Also, if there are any dos installers available, there are a multitude of freedos boot disks and such out there that you could use to boot your system with and run it from.

I ended up using wine.
I remember reading something about using nvram to do it, but I think knowledge of memory locations is needed.
