drivers for supratec sp444 webcam

Hi, I ported to Ubuntu 9.04 from windows a few weeks ago and since then my Supratec sp444 doesn't work. I can't seem to find a Linux driver for it on a google search- can anyone direct me towards one and/or suggest an ubiquitous and cheap webcam make that is easily compatible with Ubuntu?
