Debian, USB Key, DVD Player, Unordered Files: Help!
Hello, all. First post here at linuxquestions.org.
I am running Debian Linux(etch, AMD64) and having a very frustrating problem. When I insert my USB key, everything works fine and the key mounts automatically. I am able to copy files to it (in this case, MP3 files) without issue. In both graphical (Gnome) and text (good old "ls") environments, the files appear in alphabetical (or in this case, numerical) order.
The problem arises when I unmount the key, take it to my DVD player, and insert the key into the player's built-in USB port. Suddenly the files are all out of order! Not just music files, but anything on the key that was copied from Linux.
This does not happen with files copied from a Windows partition, and I cannot find any way to fix it in Linux.
Help!
-- Brandon
(PS: For what it's worth, and to avoid any potential debate, I'm primarily a vinyl guy, so *most* of the mp3s I have are free electronic downloads that come with the record.)

Hi brandont.h, Welcome to lq. Just a guess here but, is it possible the files are being read on the DVD player by meta data or tags instead of file name? How does it handle playlists?
Good luck. ;-)
