Debian Pinnacle PCTV Stereo Problem

Hi!
Im using debian sarge and try to get pinnacle pctv stereo to work. With tvtime I get the video but no sound, except this "hissssssss" like when you don't have channels on your tv at all. Ok. I found some kind of solution from here but don't know how to use it? The solution was "options tda9887 qss=0" to /etc/modprobe.conf" but there is no modprobe.conf in debian. So, where should I put this option or is there some other solutions here?

If using a 2.6 kernel then create a file /etc/modprobe.d/tvcard with this for the contents.
Code:
## Added by me for stereo sound from tv card
options tda9887 qss=0
If using a 2.4 kernel the create the file in /etc/modutils/tvcard with the same contents then run the command update-modules.

Edit: All steps done as root when you reboot or reload the module the option should be used.

Ok. I did it and now tvtime gives me sounds, but.. If I change channel it may take 2-10 seconds when sound comes back. That 2-10 seconds it is just that "hissss". Any advice to that? But thanks alot anyway!

Other than trying another program like xawtv not really, it could be that the support for the card is somewhat buggy.

Well, I tried few days ago xawtv but it just doesn't work.
This is xawtv-3.94, running on Linux/i686 (2.6.8-2-686)
xinerama 0: 1600x1200+0+0
xinerama 1: 1024x768+1600+0
X Error of failed request: XF86DGANoDirectVideoMode
Major opcode of failed request: 137 (XFree86-DGA)
Minor opcode of failed request: 1 (XF86DGAGetVideoLL)
Serial number of failed request: 69
Current serial number in output stream: 69
I don't know answer to this problem so I used tvtime. Actually I would need a tv software that could record as well..

Try xawtv -noxv or xawtv -c /dev/video0 -remote also I take it you have a dual display you may want to try without the xinerama with just a single head or dual head configuration where the screens are individual ones.

"xawtv -c /dev/video0 -remote" worked fine! Well, I just tried to have somekind of picture to my tv-out. How to make it dualhead and individuals? I noticed that some progams takes both screens when using fullscreen.

Good to hear it is working. When setting up for multiple heads you need to have separate sections for the screens, monitors and cards in your X config. Now with the TV-Out I am not totally sure if this needs to be the case as I have never setup one of those. Can you post some details on the hardware being used/driver for video card you are using plus your X config file and the log file these would be /etc/X11/xorg.conf and /var/log/Xorg.0.log if using Xorg or /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 and /var/log/XFree86.0.log if using XFree86.

Hi you posted the X config twice could you post the log and I found this thread with an example for what the tv-out portion should look like in post #4 the person here has the same card so the thread may be worth watching if I cannot help you figure it out. Also the refresh rates you are using for the monitor section look a little low and should probably be the ones that you have listed in your tv-out section.

whoops! Sorry about that.
Here's the log: (I have to put it into 2 parts, it's too long)

Part 1

XFree86 Version 4.3.0.1 (Debian 4.3.0.dfsg.1-14sarge1 20050901212727 fjp@localhost.localdomain)

Ok so I think I am getting a little confused now I read the thread again are you trying to display the xawtv tv card output through the TV-OUT on your video card to a television or is this a 2 monitor setup where you are trying to display on the second head.

I have monitor and tv-out for tv (of course). Tv-out I use to watch movies. Tv card I own that I can record. Actually I would need sotware that I can adjust the time when recording starts/stops. I'm trying to get rid of windows (tried for 1½ years) and almost everything is working fine now.
