D-Link DWL-650+ no power?

Hello fellow penguins, I need help. I've installed the drivers and went through the install steps for the
D-Link DWL-650+. No prob, but my laptop (dell i2650) can't seem to send any power to the card. No lights, nothing. Dmesg sees nothing too. It works fine in M$ xp pro, confused. What in the world could be the reason for this? It's like the kernel refuses to send juice to it.?

ideas?

thanks in advance,
cg

What drivers did you install? Are you following

http://www.wickle.com/weblog/index.php?p=49&more=1

Also I'm not sure I understand your diagnosis - the kernel handles data, not power.

Yeah, I've worked with http://www.wickle.com/weblog/index.php?p=49&more=1
Installing the modules ect is no prob, when I go to insmod I get no such device response. The reason I'm thinking kernel, is now I have got it to show power, it just crashes the system now. So, this has something to do with hot-plug config, which, I'm taking a stab in the dark here, has a little something to do with the kernel. I'ts been narrowed down to a hot-plug prob. So, just out of curiosity (sp?) does the pcmcia plugin have power prior to hot-plug being activated? Is it hot-plug's mission to 1) supply power 2) config? ( lose definition there) Curious.

thanks,
cg

Never mind all, I've figured it out. Took some time, but after reading the hot plug scripts, I learned to simply place the uneeded drivers in the /etc/hotplug/blacklist file; It did end up being a hotplug issue. Other changes had to happen aswell, but in retrospect, fairly simple. Linux; so easy to take hours to use one word to solve a problem |;p)

ps my card works great! Thanks acx100 hackers!

bests,
cg

Hi there Mate!

I'm a newbie with linux mandrake 9.2
And I am having the same problem as you with the power on the dwl 650+.

Can you explain me what did you do?
What did u write on the blacklist file??

---

Another question,
I am currently doing everything that the link:
http://www.wickle.com/weblog/index.php?p=49&more=1
tell to do but I have a problem, how do I compile the kernel?

in the /usr/src/linux-2.4.22-28mdk
I am writing these commands:

# make -kpkg clean
# make -kpkg CONFIG_EXPERIMENTAL=y
...so on..

is that correct?
if not, what is the correct way?

---

when I test the driver:

# insmod acx100_pci
it gives me an erro:

"
Using /lib/modules/2.4.22-28mdk/kernel/3rdparty/acx100/acx100_pci.o.gz /lib/modules/2.4.22-28mdk/kernel/3rdparty/acx100/acx100_pci.o.gz: init_module: no such device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameteres, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
"

---

help please?

G'day mate,

I used the instructions at http://www.houseofcraig.net/acx100_howto.php and I now have a working DWL 650+ under Debian 3.0. There are instructions for Mandrake 9.2

BTW You must be using an old driver. The new driver is named acx_pci not acx100_pci HTH
