I purchased a D-Link DWL-650 recently and am trying to get the wireless networking up and running. I have read several conflicting accounts of how to get this card up and running (I am envisioning it is a prism chipset, but I don't know for sure).
Firstly, I am not sure whether I need to recompile the Kernel or not, and reports about needing to use pcmcia-cs and linux-wlan-ng are not very consistent. Secondly, it is not clear to me what the path of least pain is on this one (or if there is such a thing). Can someone give me some guidance on this?
For the DWL-650 I don't think you need a kernel compile. I believe that card should be detected by redhat-config-network. (I think that's what it's called)
Try running that utility and make a new connection. It should pop up as a Lucent compatible. The DWL-650's were prism chipsets the 650+ was something different but that issue has been resolved fortunatley.
Can you guys maybe provide a few more details? No, the DWL-650 doesn't seem to be detected automatically... at least, using "neat" to setup the wireless networking does not work.
The linuxant stuff does not appear to recognize the card. I'm a little concerned because I'm getting the ol' long low beep, indicating I don't think the PCMCIA card was recognized (so maybe linuxant won't see it). In fact, I get stuck at "No devices found" on the web interface. Help?

not sure what to tell you. I never encountered that problem. Look in your devices and see if that the computer recognizes your card bus slots, (if you have done so already) also you might want to shot an e-mail to linuxant.com and see what they have to say about it.
