CD drives wont read music

so far this has been true in the updated kernals in fc2, fc3 (in general) and suse 9.2(in general) so im now fairly convinced this isnt an OS issue.

my drives are as follows:
samsung CDR/RW sw-240B
samsung DVD ROM sd-616T

anyone else have these issues, or know how i might fix them?

Can you play music files written to hard drive, eg. .ogg's or .mp3's, or is it only files on cd/dvd that you can't read ?

U sure you have an audio cable attached 2 ur cdrom? If not, then older versions of most audio cd players can only play analog audio from audiocd's thru that cable, but newer versions can get the data digitally from the drive cables/controller. Get the latest stable version of xmms or whatever and u should not have any problems (I had the exact same problem).
