Question new install wont let me see fat32 and NTFS drives

I just installed a new Debian install off the web. (used the latest net install) I have most of it up and running ok. The install its self was easy. I am having problems getting Debian to see my Windows Partitions which are Fat32 and a small NTFS. I am able to see other XP machines on the home network and can log into them and browse their shared folders just fine. I just cannot find the rest of my hardrive on this machine.

please post the output of fdisk -l and cat /etc/fstab along with whatever command you are using to mount the windows partitions...

As for what commands I am using. I do not know what to use. I am relatively new to linux and have done some with Mandrake in the past but that was all a gui interface. I want to learn command line but am not familiar with it now. Any and all help will be greatly aprecaited.

okay, let's test someting... create a directory called "/mnt/windows" and then attempt to mount "/dev/hda5" to it:

mkdir /mnt/windows

mount -t vfat /dev/hda5 /mnt/windows

let me know if that works or if it gives you any errors...

if it doesn't give you any errors, you should be able to browse the fat32 partition by going into /mnt/windows

Talking Thx It Worked

Thank you. I was able to figure out what the commands you gave me did enough to mount both by fat32 drive and my NTFS drives.

Question mounted Root Only

I was able to mount the drives as I stated above but I am unable to either mount them to my desktop or be able to access them in any other mode either then Super User or Root. I am also unable to unmount them even as root.

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.
Damon
