Hello, i have troubles getting the proprietery ATI driver working. However, in
the Xorg.0.log it seems it was correctly detected.

On the card is a label: ATI RADEON 7500 LE, it has a passive cooler (no fan attached on the card.)

Code:
lspci

Section "Device"
Identifier "ATI RADEON RV200 QW"
Driver "fglrx"
#Driver "ati"
Option "VideoOverlay" "On"
# BusID "PCI:2:0:0"
# BusID "PCI:02:00.0"

... have you tried uncommenting that first BusID? With no busids, X will probably fail to find the "device" and so return a "no screens found" error.

In my case:

lspci of...
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82865G Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)

... gives xorg entry of...

Section "Device"
Identifier "Intel 82865G IGC"
Driver "i810"
BusID "PCI:0:2:0"
[snip]

Tried, but no luck. Last entry in dmesg is:
Code:
[drm:radeon_cp_init] *ERROR* radeon_cp_init called without lock held
[drm:drm_unlock] *ERROR* Process 13947 using kernel context 0
mtrr: no MTRR for d8000000,4000000 found
[drm:radeon_cp_init] *ERROR* radeon_cp_init called without lock held
[drm:drm_unlock] *ERROR* Process 14088 using kernel context 0
Also i didn't find drivers for the RADEON 7500 on the ATI site, but for RADEON >=8500.

But the error is now more informative... (http://lkml.org/lkml/2005/9/10/78) you're missing your AGP backend.... its either not compiled in or not being loaded before the drm. Which distro is this?

[later]
You know, looking around I get the impression that the 7500 is not supported by the proprietary driver.
http://www.stanchina.net/~flavio/deb...installer.html
http://ati.amd.com/products/catalyst/linux.html#2
... It is suggested you use the radeon driver, which supports the 7500 (RV200 chip) with 2D accel only. (Though I have seen reports that it can do 3D accel. http://www.geocities.com/five0greek/003623.html)
