canon N1240U/LIDE30 scanner won't work anymore...

hi,
my canon N1240U/LIDE30 did perfectly work under ubuntu 10.10.

i updated to 13.04 and it does not anymore: simple-scan and xsane tell no device is found, and the same scanimage -L (and also sudo scanimage -L):
Code:
No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,
check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the
sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation
which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).
the only working command seems sane-find-scanner, which correctly finds my device:
Code:
found USB scanner (vendor=0x04a9 [Canon], product=0x220e [CanoScan]) at libusb:003:006
hints?

ps: vuescan (commercial software) perfectly works...

It could very well be a kernel problem, it has happened to scanners in the past.

Sorry, it's been hectic around here.

It appears that it could be anything from permissions to not having the proper firmware loaded for your scanner. This HowTo will show you how to get the firmware loaded into your linux system:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ScanningHowTo

Your scanner is listed as good in the SANE backend "plustek (0.52)" (Man page: http://www.sane-project.org/man/sane-plustek.5.html)

From what I can tell, you need to have access to your Canon Windows driver/installation CD.

hi,
i made A LOT of debugging, and i found this issue is only related with usb 3.0 ports.

ubuntu 10.10, 13.04, 13.10 + usb 2.0 -> ok (tested on 3 computers)
ubuntu 10.10, 13.04, 13.10 + usb 3.0 -> no (tested on 2 computers)
windows vista + usb 2.0 -> ok (tested on 1 computer)
windows vista + usb 3.0 -> no (tested on 1 computer)

it may look like the scanner could not be compatible with usb 3.0, but vuescan perfectly works on ubuntu (13.04 and 13.10) and usb 3.0

i spent some time searching for a solution to this bug, but i could not find any...
