Cannot start X after changing graphics card

Hi, just a few days ago I upgraded my graphics card from an onboard Intel card to a PCIe nVidia GeForce 8400 GS. Now, I couldn't start X (only console). I've used Sax2 from the console but still didn't work. Luckily my system is dual booted with Windows XP so I can online (IMHO browsing using lynx is annoying ). How do I set the X so I can start it again? Thanks in advance.

You are currently using intel drivers, you need nvidia.
There is a suse-specific way to do this but I forget. The generic way is to edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf so it shows "nv" for your video-card driver instead of i810 or whatever it is.

Since you have an onboard device as well as a card, make sure that your "[Device]" sections have a BusID: entry.

There is an xorg-X11-man package you can install for the xorg man pages.

Code:
       BusID "bus-id"
This specifies the bus location of the graphics card. For PCI/AGP cards, the bus-id
string has the form PCI:bus:device:function (e.g., "PCI:1:0:0" might be appropriate
for an AGP card). This field is usually optional in single-head configurations when
using the primary graphics card. In multi-head configurations, or when using a sec‐
ondary graphics card in a single-head configuration, this entry is mandatory. Its
main purpose is to make an unambiguous connection between the device section and the
hardware it is representing. This information can usually be found by running the
Xorg server with the -scanpci command line option.
My guess is that you either don't have BusID entries in your xorg.conf file or that they are switched around and the busid entry is causing the wrong device being used.

Read your xorg.conf log. It will probably indicate what the problem is. Also post your xorg.conf file.

Get the latest driver from NVIDIA:

http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html

We cannot expect the system to load X without the proper driver.

When I did some searching in openSUSE's website, I found the article to install an nVidia card. I'll try it first and then if it still didn't work, I'll get back here. Thanks guys.

Good call... try not to install from the official installer, it can mess things up - especially if you change cards again.
